Support
Setup first, then customize.
Hardware Keyboard Companion (HWC) configures the HWC Keyboard custom keyboard on iPhone and iPad.
Initial Setup
- Open the companion app once after install.
- Go to
Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. - Add
HWC Keyboard. - Enable
Allow Full Access. - Open any app with a text field and switch keyboards with the globe key.
Allow Full Access is used only so the companion app and the keyboard can share on-device settings through the local app-group container and support optional keyboard haptics. The current build does not use this permission to send typed text off device.
What To Check If It Looks Wrong
- Reopen the companion app and confirm the readiness or sync state.
- Verify that the keyboard is enabled in iOS Keyboard settings.
- Remember that iOS replaces third-party keyboards in secure text fields.
- If testing on iPad with external hardware attached, enable the on-screen keyboard if needed.
